Yankho Kaimila is a 30-year-old tenured lecturer at chancellor college, University of Malawi. She has a masters of medical science degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Sheffield in England and is currently finishing her PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology at the College of Medicine, University of Malawi. She is the founder of Nutrition Wellness Consultants, an NGO that focuses on combating all forms of malnutrition. She recently opened a centre for the prevention and management of overweight/obesity and dietary-related diseases in Sunnyside Blantyre, called Nutrition Wellness Center as a subsidiary of Nutrition Wellness Consultants. She provides personalized nutrition services to individuals and helps the incorporation of nutrition services into the workforce of companies to improve the health of Malawians. Since opening the centre in January 2019, she has served over 700 individuals. Yankho emerged the national winner in a competition for women entrepreneurs in Biosciences in September 2019 for her innovation to create a contextualized Malawian and African meal planning and tracking database for the prevention of overweight/obesity and dietary-related diseases. She is pioneering the inclusion of nutritionists into the medical profession in Malawi with the Medical Council of Malawi, and she will be one of the few registered clinical nutritionists in the country. She is working with colleagues to create an association for nutritionists and guidelines for registration to aid in the full incorporation of nutritionist in the health care system of Malawi.
